Director’s Update

As we end this school year, all we can say is: What a year it has been! We have proved, once again, that LMACS has the best students, families, and teachers!

We would never have been able to predict that we would have to totally shut down the school building after only one week of our spring term. However, the learning did not stop! Teachers put all their classes into Google Classroom and sent learning packets home and we never skipped a beat. Congratulations to all the students who were able to transition to a remote environment and earn valuable credits toward graduation. As we tell the students, their grades reflect the amount of effort they are willing to put into their academics whether remotely or in a traditional classroom. If students were not able to complete some of their classes or even all of their classes…well, we’ll see you in the fall. We are planning a new and improved version of LMACS learning. We have teachers and tutors and a more convenient and flexible way to earn credit.

Please watch for information about re-opening LMACS by mid-August. We will post on our website (LMACS.org) and send packets to your home address. If you have any questions please get in touch with your student’s advisor at the end of August. We will be implementing a blended model which means a combination of in school and remote learning. It will be a convenient and flexible way to earn credit.

This year’s graduation ceremony was postponed due to the pandemic. However, we are very pleased to report that 17 students have earned their high school diplomas which will be awarded as soon as we can be together to celebrate their accomplishments.

I would be remiss if I did not mention the incredible work of our teachers. By the end of the first week of the shut-down, teachers contacted 98% of our students to make certain they were safe and knew where to go to get any services they may have needed. Advisors checked-in to ask if students were able to access the curriculum using technology…if not, we strategized to find “hot spots” and loan devices or use the US MAIL to get learning packets to any student needing them. We all learned to ZOOM in a hurry!!!! Once we were confident that our students were safe, the teachers totally redesigned ALL THEIR classes. It was an extremely stressful time for the entire LMACS community…but we are LMACS STRONG…all of us…students, families, and teachers… and we will persist.

Make sure you tell your friends to join you at LMACS in the fall. It’s a convenient and flexible way to earn credit. Remember…bring a friend and earn a Dunkin’s Card.
