POSITION:   High School STEM Teacher/Advisor

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:

This position is responsible for instructing 9th – 12th grade students from diverse backgrounds in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM). This position also assumes the role of Advisor to assigned groups of students. This is a unique teaching opportunity, offering the challenge to re-engage students in their education.  The ideal candidate will have experience and/or knowledge in working with students, staff and faculty of diverse socioeconomic, cultural, racial and ethnic backgrounds, including those with different levels of academic preparation and varying physical and learning abilities.  This position reports to the Director of the Lowell Middlesex Academy Charter School.  

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

  • Develop and teach classes in STEM area of expertise and serve as an Academic Advisor for 15-20 students.
  • Work collaboratively with small staff as a team, examining practice for continuous curriculum and instructional improvement.
  • Participate fully in professional development week before and after the student academic year. 
  • Foster a positive classroom learning environment and contribute to a positive school climate that provides safety, support, discipline and structure.
  • Utilize appropriate technology to facilitate teaching and learning.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related STEM area.
  • Massachusetts Educator License or Highly Qualified in any STEM area
  • Experience working with at-risk students preferred

SALARY: Commensurate with qualifications and experience

The ELL Teacher will develop and implement effective instructional strategies to support English language learners in achieving academic success. This position reports to the Director of the Lowell Middlesex Academy Charter School.  This position also assumes the role of Advisor to assigned groups of students. This is a unique teaching opportunity, offering the challenge to re-engage students in their education.  The ideal candidate will have experience and/or knowledge in working with students, staff and faculty of diverse socioeconomic, cultural, racial and ethnic backgrounds, including those with different levels of academic preparation and varying physical and learning abilities.  This position reports to the Director of the Lowell Middlesex Academy Charter School.  

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

  • Develop and teach classes specifically designed for English Language Learners (ELLs).
  • Assess students’ language proficiency and create individualized learning plans.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to support ELL students’ language development across all subjects.
  • Monitor and report on student progress, providing regular feedback to students, parents, and school staff.
  • Utilize a variety of instructional strategies and resources to meet the diverse needs of ELL students.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages student participation and engagement.
  • Participate fully in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in English Language Education.
  • Work collaboratively with the school’s leadership team and staff to support the school’s mission and goals.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.


Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, TESOL, Applied Linguistics, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Valid Massachusetts teaching license in English Language Education.
  • SEI (Sheltered English Immersion) Endorsement.
  • Minimum of two years of experience teaching English Language Learners in a K-12 setting.
  • Strong knowledge of English Language Education teaching methodologies and best practices.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, students, and parents.
  • Commitment to the academic success and personal growth of all students.
