POSITION: School Counselor, Social Worker, Adjustment Counselor

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:

This position is responsible for developing, implementing and managing school guidance programs. This is a unique opportunity, offering the challenge to re-engage students in their education.  This position reports to the Director of the Lowell Middlesex Academy Charter School.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

  • Develop and provide an effective comprehensive guidance and counseling program to serve the needs of all students
  • Plan and Support orientation programs to acquaint students with new situations and facilitate their school adjustment process
  • Provide social/emotional and guidance activities within the classroom
  • Act as a school-based resource for parents and school staff for information regarding community agencies, activities, and organizations
  • Provide student career/vocational options through individual and classroom presentations and community involvement
  • Identify students who require special consideration and attention and initiate or arrange for modified curricula programs or education alternatives designed to motivate and contribute to productive school experiences
  • Collaborate with school personnel and parents on educationally related issues, when needed
  • Assist with school-based attendance and truancy interventions
  • Maintain confidentiality and accuracy of records and related information and assist with management of student records
  • Participate in professional growth activities as directed by the Executive Director
  • Adhere to all applicable laws and district procedures and policies
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director

 OTHER DUTIES:

  • Promote and maintain collaborative relationships with faculty and staff
  • Participate in trainings as assigned to keep current on trends and practices
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

 Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in appropriate field.
  • 3-5 years related teaching/direct service experience.
  • Massachusetts Educator License as School Counselor, Social Worker or Adjustment Counselor.
  • Ability and willingness to work with at-risk students.
  • Experience and/or knowledge in working with students, staff and faculty of diverse socioeconomic, cultural, racial and ethnic backgrounds, including those with different levels of academic preparation and varying physical and learning abilities.
  • Bilingual skills a plus.

SALARY: Commensurate with qualifications and experience

POSITION:   High School STEM Teacher/Advisor

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:

This position is responsible for instructing 9th – 12th grade students from diverse backgrounds in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM). This position also assumes the role of Advisor to assigned groups of students. This is a unique teaching opportunity, offering the challenge to re-engage students in their education.  The ideal candidate will have experience and/or knowledge in working with students, staff and faculty of diverse socioeconomic, cultural, racial and ethnic backgrounds, including those with different levels of academic preparation and varying physical and learning abilities.  This position reports to the Director of the Lowell Middlesex Academy Charter School.  

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

  • Develop and teach classes in STEM area of expertise and serve as an Academic Advisor for 15-20 students.
  • Work collaboratively with small staff as a team, examining practice for continuous curriculum and instructional improvement.
  • Participate fully in professional development week before and after the student academic year. 
  • Foster a positive classroom learning environment and contribute to a positive school climate that provides safety, support, discipline and structure.
  • Utilize appropriate technology to facilitate teaching and learning.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related STEM area.
  • Massachusetts Educator License or Highly Qualified in any STEM area/s and eligible to receive the required Massachusetts Educator License within 1 year of hire.
  • 3 years related teaching/direct service experience
  • Experience working with at-risk students preferred
