Compliance with State and Federal Parental Notification Requirements:
LMACS follows the notification timelines outlined in both state and federal law. Parents are informed of their child’s screening results and ELE program placement:
-
No later than 30 days after the beginning of the school year, or
-
Within two weeks of enrollment if a student enters during the school year
Notifications include clear information about the student’s EL status, the services they are eligible to receive, and the rights of the parent to either opt out of the program or request a waiver from Sheltered English Immersion (SEI), as described in G.L. c. 71A, §5. All documentation is maintained in the student’s ELE folder.
Families who opt out or request a waiver are supported through ongoing communication, and the district ensures that these students continue to receive access to appropriate academic and language supports.
