Remembering a Beloved Teacher and Trustee

Dear LMACS Community,

On May 5th, 2026,  Dave Daniel passed away after a long battle with pulmonary fibrosis. Dave was a quintessential gentleman, kind, curious and compassionate, the exact qualitiesthat served him so well as a teacher here at LMACS. Dave taught at LMACS from 2005 to 2016 and left an indelible mark on all who knew him.  In fact, when you mention his name to those of us that knew him here at the school, invariably a smile crosses their face, which is precisely the kind of memorial we all want to leave in our lives. After retirement, Dave continued to faithfully serve LMACS as a Trustee and occasional guest speaker, most recently reading from his collection of stories Beach Town.

Dave Daniel was the kind of teacher — and human being — students carry with them long after they leave school. He is the teacher students still talk about years later: the Hawaiian shirts, the stories, the walks to the Boot Mill, the cassette tapes playing Kerouac. More than anything, Dave made students feel seen, capable, and genuinely cared for, and that stayed with them long after graduation.  Even after retirement, he continued showing up for LMACS because he truly loved this community and the people in it. His impact is woven into the stories, memories, and lives of so many students and staff who were lucky enough to have known him.

Thank you, Dave, for all you gave to LMACS. You will be deeply missed, and even more importantly, remembered well.

With gratitude and remembrance,

LMACS
