POSITION:  High School Special Education Coordinator/Teacher

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:

This position is responsible for serving in the role of Special Education Coordinator/Teacher and facilitating/chairing IEP meetings as well as ensuring accurate reporting and consistent implementation of individual student education plans. In addition, this position will be expected to work with teachers to modify academic curriculum as needed, conduct independent assessments, and provide individual and classroom support to student and classroom teachers as direct service for 9th and 12th grade students from diverse backgrounds. The special education Coordinator will be a full-time participant in and contributor to the program’s planning, development and implementation.  This position reports to the Executive Director.

 PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Maintain student records regarding special education issues and prepare reports for regulatory agencies while also ensuring compliance with all City, State, and Federal special education laws.
  2. Plan and coordinate initial evaluations.
  3. Chair IEP Team meetings
  4. Update and revise Individual Educational Plans as needed.
  5. Fulfill all case management, tracking, and reporting requirements as assigned.
  6. Utilize a team teaching approach with regular educational teachers and provide in-class support
  7. Provide individual support to students as needed.
  8. Contribute proactively, thoughtfully, and productively to the school’s planning, development, and implementation.
  9. Foster a positive classroom learning environment and contribute to a positive school climate that provides safety, support, discipline and structure.
  10. Communicate with and facilitate meetings with parents/designated adults
  11. Facilitate SEPAC meetings
  12. Create Behavior Functional Assessments in conjunction with the school support team
  13. Write Progress Reports in conjunction with the school support team
  14. Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:            

  • 3-5 years related teaching/direct service experience and MA Teacher License in Special Needs.
  • Experience in elementary and/or middle/high school special education.
  • Knowledge and experience in special education inclusion and resource model
  • Experience and/or knowledge in working with students, staff and faculty of diverse socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, including those with different levels of academic preparation and varying physical and learning abilities.

SALARY: Commensurate with qualifications and experience

POSITION: School Counselor, Social Worker, Adjustment Counselor

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:

This position is responsible for developing, implementing and managing school guidance programs. This is a unique opportunity, offering the challenge to re-engage students in their education.  This position reports to the Director of the Lowell Middlesex Academy Charter School. 

 ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

  • Work with the school support team to provide an effective comprehensive guidance and counseling program to serve the needs of all students.
  • Plan and support orientation programs to acquaint students with new situations and facilitate their school adjustment process.
  • Provide individual and group counseling services.
  • Provide social/emotional and guidance activities within the classroom and in Advising groups.
  • Act as a school-based resource for parents and school staff for information regarding community agencies, activities, and organizations.
  • Provide student career/vocational options through individual and classroom presentations and community involvement.
  • Collaborate with school personnel and parents on educationally related issues, when needed.
  • ​​Assist in developing positive behavioral intervention strategies.
  • Assist with school-based attendance and truancy interventions.
  • Participate in special educational assessment meetings, Section 504 Meetings, as well as Individual Educational Planning

 OTHER DUTIES:

  • Promote and maintain collaborative relationships with faculty and staff
  • Participate in trainings as assigned to keep current on trends and practices
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

 Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in an appropriate field.
  • 3-5 years related teaching/direct service experience.
  • Massachusetts Educator License as School Counselor, Social Worker or Adjustment Counselor.
  • Ability and willingness to work with at-risk students.
  • Experience and/or knowledge in working with students, staff and faculty of diverse socioeconomic, cultural, racial and ethnic backgrounds, including those with different levels of academic preparation and varying physical and learning abilities.
  • Bilingual skills a plus.

POSITION:   High School STEM Teacher/Advisor

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:

This position is responsible for instructing 9th – 12th grade students from diverse backgrounds in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM). This position also assumes the role of Advisor to assigned groups of students. This is a unique teaching opportunity, offering the challenge to re-engage students in their education.  The ideal candidate will have experience and/or knowledge in working with students, staff and faculty of diverse socioeconomic, cultural, racial and ethnic backgrounds, including those with different levels of academic preparation and varying physical and learning abilities.  This position reports to the Director of the Lowell Middlesex Academy Charter School.  

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

  • Develop and teach classes in STEM area of expertise and serve as an Academic Advisor for 15-20 students.
  • Work collaboratively with small staff as a team, examining practice for continuous curriculum and instructional improvement.
  • Participate fully in professional development week before and after the student academic year. 
  • Foster a positive classroom learning environment and contribute to a positive school climate that provides safety, support, discipline and structure.
  • Utilize appropriate technology to facilitate teaching and learning.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related STEM area.
  • Massachusetts Educator License or Highly Qualified in any STEM area/s and eligible to receive the required Massachusetts Educator License within 1 year of hire.
  • 3 years related teaching/direct service experience
  • Experience working with at-risk students preferred
